Field Trips

During most months, we have photography field trips. Some are local and others are out of town. From a few hours to a few days, they are a great opportunity to challenge yourself and each other and gain insights and knowledge that will improve your photography skillsets.

In addition to hanging out with a group of passionate photographers, you’ll have the opportunity to review and receive positive critique and relax with food, drinks and fun.

Fossil Rim Wildlife Center

March 30 – 31, 2026

The March field trip for the HIP Club will be at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in Glen Rose, Texas. We will have a 3 hour behind-the-scenes tour for photographing some of the 50 species of animals on Fossil Rim’s 1800 acre wildlife preserve. You’ll see and feed many horned and antlered animals, giraffes, ostriches, emus, zebras, wildebeest, and many more. Our guide will take us on a safari-type wagon tour of the area beginning at 4:00 pm so we can catch the golden hour for great pictures.

WHEN:
Monday, March 30, 2026. Meet at 3:30 pm at the Fossil Rim Check-In

WHO:
HIP members plus their guests. YES! Spouses, kids, Plus Ones, etc. welcome

COST:
$75.00/person (assuming we have at least 10 people, which is seems we have)
Additional $30/person if you want to do your own drive through the reserve in your own car, either the next day or earlier on the 30th.

LODGING:
We have discounted rooms blocked at Best Western Dinosaur Valley for Monday night March 30. Cost for a King bed room is $80 + taxes (approx. $90) and $90 + taxes (approx. $101) for 2 Queens. We have 10 rooms held in the group block until March 16. Call 254-897-4818 to make your reservation and tell them you are with the HIP PHOTO CLUB. The have free breakfast, frig/microwave, and they’ll let us check in at 2:00 pm. The address is 1311 North East Big Bend Trail, Glen Rose, Texas.

Glen Rose is about 1 hour south of Fort Worth, and about a 4 hour drive from Houston. There is plenty to see and do in the Fort Worth/Glen Rose area if you want to go a few days early or stay after.
